Newcastle United star Lewis Hall is enjoying life right now.

After a difficult start to life at Newcastle, Hall has emerged as one of the standout players for the club this season.

Indeed, Eddie Howe has been full of praise for the 20-year-old and his fine form at club level earned him the ultimate reward on Thursday night.

Hall was handed a debut for England in the second-half of their Nations League win over Greece and impressed sections of the Newcastle support online, as well as club legend Alan Shearer.

It is a remarkable rise for a player who last season couldn’t get into the Newcastle side due to doubts about his defending.

Still, Howe always backed the young defender and through both his coaching and Hall’s hard work, England have come calling.

John Terry, a legend for both the Three Lions and Hall’s former club Chelsea, was also delighted to see the left-back make his bow for his country.

On Friday night, Hall took to Instagram to post a photo of himself in action captioned: “England debut. What dreams are made of.”

In response, Terry wrote: “Congratulations mate.”

Why Lewis Hall was surprised about his England debut

Even despite being called up for the squad and having been praised in the build-up to the Greece game by interim boss Lee Carsley, it seems Hall wasn’t expecting to even come on in Athens.

Speaking after the game, Hall admitted that he did not anticipate replacing Ezri Konsa at the break.

“I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really expecting to come on just because of the position that Ezri plays,” he said.

“I think it was [performance coach] Chris Jones who told me and I couldn’t quite believe him at first.

“Luckily, I had another 10 minutes as well then to get myself ready and prepared to come on.”

Whether he was expecting it or not, Hall certainly did not look out of place and could perhaps be in line for a first start for his country when they host the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The season just keeps getting better and better for Hall…
