Not every Newcastle United signing will hit the ground running.
It takes players time to get used to Eddie Howe’s style, while Newcastle United are also signing players who are perhaps not the finished article.
While Kieran Trippier came to Newcastle and had an immediate impact, Anthony Gordon did not. It took him a bit of time, but he is now one of Eddie Howe’s most important players.
Elsewhere, Newcastle fans are finally seeing why the club spent £28million on Lewis Hall.
His first year at St James’ Park was really difficult. The decision to bring him in was constantly questioned, with Mehrdad Ghodoussi negotiating a deal with Chelsea to sign Hall.
But the 20-year-old has kicked on so much, and, like so many of his teammates, has been transformed by Eddie Howe.
Eddie Howe is delighted with Lewis Hall signing one year on

Hall is now proving to be a consistent starter for Newcastle United. The Magpies have played 10 games in all competitions so far, and the young left-back has started six of them.
He looks so much more comfortable in a black and white shirt, and Howe has praised Hall for his progress since arriving at St James’ Park.
“The thing with Lewis when we were looking at that deal was the lack of equal players in that position,” he said.
“We took an opportunity to sign a young player who we knew would be growing and developing into the player he was going to become. And we wanted to grab that opportunity while we had it. We felt if we waited then it would possibly move beyond us.
“He took time to develop, as all young players do. He was so young when he came to us initially.
“But the growth in him at the back end of last season and the development in his game this season has been really strong. I’ve been really pleased with the way he’s played in the last few games. He’s adding layers and different strengths to his game. I can only see that improving, so I think it’s a great bit of business by us.”
Lewis Hall set to return to Chelsea after £28m transfer
Howe is delighted with Hall’s recent form, and that should result in him retaining his place in the starting XI this weekend. Hall features in our predicted Newcastle XI to face Chelsea.
This game has added importance for Hall, as he prepares to face his former club for the first time since leaving. He was ineligible to play against them in the Premier League last season, while Howe opted not to use Hall when Newcastle faced Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last December.
Back then, Hall was not a trusted first-team player. But he is now, with Howe choosing Hall to play in Newcastle’s biggest games. He even picked him against Manchester City, with Hall having one of his best games in a Newcastle shirt.
The youngster is getting better and better, and Howe is understandably delighted with his progress.
While he may have left the club over the summer, Mehrdad Ghodoussi continues to deserve credit for bringing Hall to St James’ Park.
