Newcastle United are on the lookout for some big signings this summer.

While it has been a frustrating few months for Newcastle in the transfer market, the club reportedly want to sign both a central defender and a right winger, as well as do a deal for young Sheffield United forward, William Osula.

Though the identity of the right winger is yet to be revealed, there has been movement on a new defender of late.

Indeed, club are reportedly in talks with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace over a move to sign England international Marc Guehi, who is said to be open to joining Eddie Howe’s side this summer.

Still, Guehi isn’t the only worry Palace have about Newcastle’s plans this summer.

Why Crystal Palace are now worried about Newcastle this summer

According to the print edition of the Sunday Sun (page 64 and continued on page 57 on 04/08/2024), there is more concern at Selhurst Park.

They claim that there is a fear that Newcastle could make a move for Eberechi Eze should they sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool.

Eze is said to have a release clause worth around £60m in his contract and is also attracting interest from Manchester City and Tottenham.

Newcastle opted against signing Eberechi Eze last summer

Newcastle’s interest in Eze is fairly long-standing.

The club are thought to have been interested in signing the 26-year-old last summer but eventually opted to move for Sandro Tonali instead.

Obviously, that hasn’t worked out just yet and having to sell Gordon to get him would be bittersweet, but it seems Newcastle really do value the England international.

It would therefore not be much of a surprise to see Eze become a leading target should Gordon leave and the fact there’s a release clause would help proceedings, given the club would not have to negotiate with Palace.
