Newcastle United are in advanced talks to make their first major signing of the summer, with a potential transfer breakthrough on the horizon.
It has been a quiet summer on Tyneside so far, despite three fresh faces joining Newcastle United.
Lloyd Kelly, Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy have all signed for the Magpies, adding depth to Eddie Howe’s squad.
Now Newcastle are looking to add more depth, as they aim to sign a striker that can provide cover for Alexander Isak.
It is vital that someone comes in, especially with Callum Wilson out injured with a back problem. His latest setback has seen Newcastle step up their search for a striker, and there is finally some movement.
Newcastle make move for Will Osula
It was reported earlier in the week that Newcastle are genuinely interested in Will Osula from Sheffield United.

Now there has been some movement, with Sky Sports providing an update on the Magpies’ pursuit of the 20-year-old.
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are in advanced negotiations with Sheffield United over a deal to bring Will Osula to St James’ Park.
They state a £10million deal is being discussed, as well as a potential £5million in add-ons.
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath adds that a deal is expected to be done to bring the youngster to Tyneside.
He wrote on X: “Newcastle in advanced talks over a deal for Denmark Under-21 forward William Osula from Sheffield United. Clubs talking with expectation of deal being done.”
Newcastle identify the young striker they have been craving
There has been hope of a transfer breakthrough at Newcastle this week, and now it has emerged that the Magpies are in advanced talks to sign a forward.
They are desperate for reinforcements in that area of the pitch, with Isak currently Newcastle’s only fit striker. He has started every pre-season game so far, with Wilson out injured and possibly set to miss the start of the season.
His latest injury has highlighted the need for another striker to arrive, and Newcastle officials have been working towards that end.
At 20-years-old, Osula will provide support for Isak and Wilson – assuming Newcastle are able to complete a deal for the Danish youngster.
He has made 31 senior appearances for the Blades, scoring three goals. They all came in last season’s FA Cup, with Osula unable to find the net in the Premier League despite playing 21 times last season.
Interestingly, his last appearance for Sheffield United came in their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park in April. He came off the bench to play 23 minutes that day, as Eddie Howe’s side consigned the Blades to relegation.
But now Newcastle could offer Osula an immediate route back to the Premier League.
