Newcastle United are finally getting active in the transfer market, as they make their move for Will Osula.
The Magpies have been searching for a new striker, and it looks like they have found one. Will Osula is set to sign for Newcastle United, with the 20-year-old due to arrive from Sheffield United for an initial £10million.
It is a signing for the future as well as the present. Osula will hopefully develop into a top Premier League player, while his initial task will be to provide cover for Alexander Isak – cover that Isak so desperately needs.
Paul Mitchell has been pushing for Newcastle to sign Osula, believing that he has the potential to really kick on under the guidance of Eddie Howe. Hopefully he can do just that, with a deal on course to be completed.
It looks like Osula will be Mitchell’s first major signing as Newcastle United‘s sporting director, but it will not be the end of the Magpies’ summer transfer business.

What is next for Newcastle after Will Osula deal
That is the view of the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, who has taken to X to provide an update on what he expects will happen at St James’ Park once the Osula deal is finalised.
He wrote: “A new signing at last. A player with vast potential who will offer cover across the forward line. I expect the big money will still be spent on a right winger and a centre back though.”
Newcastle still expected to make ‘big’ signings
£10million is a lot for a striker who has never scored a Premier League goal, but Newcastle are buying Osula for his potential. The hope is that £10million will look like a bargain in a few years.
It will be the first significant outlay of the summer for Newcastle, but it should not massively dent the club’s budget.
It has been reported that Newcastle have a transfer budget of £100million, and Edwards believes what is left of that will go towards two big signings.
The priorities are clear – a right-sided centre-back who can be Fabian Schar’s successor and a right-winger who can take the Newcastle attack to the next level.
In terms of a defender, Malick Thiaw is the leading candidate to arrive at Newcastle. Eddie Howe is a big fan of Thiaw, and the path could be clear for the 22-year-old to arrive from AC Milan now that the Serie A giants have signed his replacement. They have completed a deal for Strahinja Pavlovic.
When it comes to who Newcastle will sign in attack, the situation is much less clear. It remains to be seen who the Magpies’ preference is, with various targets moving elsewhere. Michael Olise joined Bayern Munich, while Crysencio Summerville is signing for West Ham.
Whoever Newcastle go for, it looks likely to be someone big. Toon officials are well placed to splash out on a new winger, as they aim to sign someone that massively enhances Eddie Howe’s starting XI.
