Miguel Almiron looks set to leave Newcastle United to return to the MLS.

After six years on Tyneside, it looks like it is finally time to say goodbye to Newcastle’s former record signing.

Atlanta United; Almiron’s former club, offered £10million to Newcastle for the 30-year-old. It is believed that Newcastle are set to accept Atlanta’s offer. The Paraguayan’s contract runs out in 2026, so now is a good time to cash in on him while the club can still bag a decent transfer fee.

There has been a lot of talk of outgoings in recent days. As well as Almiron, Lloyd Kelly has had offers from Fenerbahce and Juventus.

Newcastle knocked back both offers, with the Italian club reportedly proposing a loan move while they wait for Bremer to recover from his ACL injury.

Toon boss Eddie Howe is reluctant to sell Kelly, despite the pure profit Newcastle would receive for the player who only joined the club in the summer.

Now, with Atlanta’s bid for Almiron set to be accepted, a new report has suggested when he will officially leave the club.

Almiron expected to leave Newcastle in the coming days

There have been instances before the January transfer window where it looked like Almiron could have left Newcastle. Almiron turned down a move to Al-Shabab in January 2024, opting to stay and fight for game time on Tyneside.

In the summer, Almiron rejected MLS side Charlotte FC. Charlotte went in for Almiron again in January, but it looks like Atlanta have won the race for the winger.

According to the Daily Mail, sporting director Paul Mitchell will make moves on Almiron’s return to Atlanta is expected this week. The report also suggests that Almiron has likely played his last game for Newcastle.

Almiron was an unused substitute for Newcastle’s embarrassing defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday. The 30-year-old has struggled for game time this season, only making seven Premier League appearances.

His departure means that Newcastle have a hole to fill on the right wing. There is a clear lack of depth in that position with Jacob Murphy the only fit, natural right winger at Howe’s disposal.

Almiron has made 222 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and bagging 12 assists.

Newcastle also make Martin Dubravka decision

For most of the January transfer window, it looked as if Martin Dubravka was signing for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

However, the same Daily Mail report has claimed that Dubravka will stay at the club following discussions with Newcastle chiefs.

Howe was keen on keeping Dubravka around while Nick Pope recovered from a knee injury. His efforts have not been in vain and the 36-year-old is now set to stay on Tyneside.

Dubravka played Newcastle’s last 10 games and helped them go on an unprecedented nine-game winning streak. During those games, Dubravka kept six clean sheets and only conceded more than once for the first time against Bournemouth on Saturday.
