Newcastle United have suffered setback after setback in the summer transfer window so far.
While it is still early days, Newcastle United have certainly not enjoyed the fast start that Eddie Howe was hoping for in the transfer window.
Multiple key targets have moved or are moving elsewhere. Liam Delap snubbed Newcastle, while the Magpies have decided that Bryan Mbeumo is too expensive.
Money, or an unwillingness to spend too much, is proving to be the issue. Burnley want £40million for James Trafford, which is more than what the Magpies are looking to pay.

Newcastle United expect transfer targets to become cheaper
The situation has resulted in fan frustration. Newcastle do not want to pay inflated fees for Premier League players, which has left supporters questioning why they are being targeted in the first place.
However, an update from the Athletic should offer fans some clarity.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United are confident that asking prices will drop and become more realistic later in the summer.
That is why there is no sense of panic internally at St James’ Park, despite concern from supporters.
Why time is on Newcastle United’s side despite slow transfer progress
The earlier clubs do their transfer business, the better. It gives them more time to settle into their new surroundings and means they can have a positive impact much sooner.
However, Newcastle United still have plenty of time to make that happen. Pre-season will not begin until early July, while there is the looming PSR deadline on 30th June that could create market opportunities for the Magpies to exploit. For example, Newcastle want Jacob Ramsey, who Aston Villa may have to sell to comply with PSR.
In terms of the big deals that have already been done this summer, they have either been for players who had release clauses or by clubs that are competing at the Club World Cup.
It is still incredibly early, and if Newcastle are of the belief that prices will drop then they are right not to rush into any mistakes. Any mistake they do make will negatively impact the rest of their summer plans.
Fan apprehension is understandable given what has happened in recent transfer windows, but Toon officials are right to remain positive about the business they plan to do.
