‘Special’ player Newcastle want to sign is about to become even more expensive

Time is running out for Newcastle United or Liverpool to sign Dominik Szoboszlai for £60million.

The Magpies have turned to Szoboszlai after deciding against a move for James Maddison, but now face competition from the Reds.

You would like to think our Champions League lure would tempt him to Tyneside, but it has been claimed that the 22-year-old would actually rather go to Anfield and play for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Regardless, the clock is ticking on his £60million release clause. That expires today, which means we could see some movement regarding a transfer away from RB Leipzig.

Newcastle already feel like Szoboszlai is too expensive at that figure, but the concern is that he could be about to become even more expensive.

Szoboszlai price is about to increase

According to the Telegraph, Leipzig are likely to increase their valuation of Szoboszlai after June 30th. They will no longer be hamstrung by a release clause, and can ask for whatever they want as they look to keep the ‘special‘ attacking midfielder at the club.

If his asking price does increase then Newcastle will surely be out of the race to sign him. They are already looking to negotiate a fee of less than £60million.

It might all depend on how much Leipzig need to sell. If their centre-back Josko Gvaridiol signs for Manchester City, they will have no financial reason to move Szoboszlai on.

Leipzig braced for interest

According to the Times, Leipzig are braced for interest in Szoboszlai today – either from Newcastle or Liverpool.

It is turning into a game of chess, with neither side blinking as of yet. Both clubs want to sign the Hungarian, but how much do they want him?

A £60million deal is there now if they want it. It would mean overspending, but they would get their man ahead of their Premier League rivals.

For Newcastle, it is difficult to envision them going all in and putting down £60million to sign Szoboszlai, especially this late in the day. If they were willing to spend that much, they would have done by now.

The toon recruitment team will not panic. It remains to be seen if Liverpool do the same.
