A Sky Sports Germany journalist has shared that nobody has yet made a bid for Dominik Szoboszlai with the clock on his release clause ticking down, Newcastle United may need to act fast.
Phillipe Hinze of Sky Sports Germany has tweeted an update on the situation regarding Newcastle and Liverpool target Dominik Szoboszlai who has a €70million (£60million) release clause that ends tomorrow.
Hinze said via Twitter: “#Szoboszlai: As of now, still no official offer has been received. Also the clause has not been activated yet. Neither from @NUFC nor from @LFC. A transfer after 30 June is not completely off the table. RB will then determine the transfer fee. Difficult conditions. @SkySportDE“
Manchester City have made it difficult for any club to sign Szoboszlai
If Newcastle don’t make their move before the release clause expires they’re more than likely to miss out on Szoboszlai. The Magpies already feel that the release clause is more than the player is worth and RB Leipzig will know that.
If the clause window elapses, RB Leipzig are then able to state their own price for the ‘special‘ Hungary international, and it’s unlikely that their valuation will be set at less than the one stated in his release clause.

Had Manchester City not just parted with £86million in Leipzig’s direction, Newcastle could have found themselves in a stronger position to negotiate, but Josko Gvardiol‘s big money move from Leipzig to Man City means that the German side now have much less incentive to sell another top player.
It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that a deal could be reached between Newcastle and Leipzig, but it will be much more difficult to get done after tomorrow.
Whatever happens today/tomorrow will be a huge indicator of how serious Newcastle are about Szoboszlai.
Newcastle may turn their attention to Chiesa instead of Szoboszlai
The 22-year-old’s name has been bandied around as a Newcastle target for a while now and many Geordies have been doing their research on the player and have come to the conclusion that he’d be a fantastic signing. However, that doesn’t mean that the board have come to the same conclusion.

With the news coming out of Italy this morning that Federico Chiesa could cost just £51.7million, there’s a chance Newcastle could turn their attention back to Serie A rather than pursue a deal for Szoboszlai.
The next couple of days are definitely going to be interesting for Newcastle fans.
