It’s now thought that Newcastle United could miss out on Dominik Szoboszlai thanks to Manchester City’s imminent deal with RB Leipzig.
As Newcastle continue to shop for an attacking midfielder to provide more firepower up front, one name that keeps popping up, other than James Maddison, is Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Leipzig.
The 22-year-old Hungarian had a fantastic season with Leipzig and Newcastle have been linked with a move for him for a while.
Man City could inadvertently ruin Newcastle’s summer transfer plans
However, now, Bild in Germany have suggested that due to Manchester City‘s impending deal with Leipzig for 21-year-old defender Josko Gvardiol, Leipzig will be in a stronger position to negotiate on Szoboszlai’s price.
Man City are expected to splash €100million (£86million) on Gvardiol which will obviously strengthen Leipzig’s financial situation meaning they won’t need to sell other star players to balance the books.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who recently hinted that he’d be open to a move to Newcastle, does have a €70million (£60million) release clause but Bild have claimed that it would be too much for Newcastle, especially having just spent big on Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle don’t feel Szoboszlai’s release clause reflects his value
It may not be so much a case that Newcastle can’t afford to splash £60million on Szoboszlai, more that they don’t believe that it’s a fair value.

There have been many reports staying that Newcastle don’t feel he’s worth the full extent of his release clause which is why they want to negotiate with Leipzig, but now, if/when the Gvardiol to Man City deal goes through, that’s going to be so much harder to do.
With news breaking today that James Maddison looks to be Tottenham-bound, this could be another attacking prospect that slips through our fingers.
