Newcastle United’s frontline could do with some refreshment.
While Eddie Howe’s side are full of goals when at their very best, putting the ball in the back of the net has been a problem this season.
What’s particularly frustrating is that Newcastle were reportedly eager to sign a new right-winger over the course of the summer but just could not get a deal over the line, having failed in a late attempt to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.
Naturally, the signing of both a new option there and potentially an extra striker is reportedly the club’s new priority in the January transfer window, having switched focus from their pursuit of Marc Guehi.
One of the names linked is Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international is said to be Newcastle’s leading transfer target, such is their admiration of the player.
In fine form this season, Bees boss Thomas Frank has been effusive in his praise.
Thomas Frank says Newcastle target Bryan Mbeumo is so good its not normal
Speaking after Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win over Ipswich in which Mbeumo scored twice to take his tally up to eight goals in nine games, Frank suggested such prolific form was “not normal” for a winger.

“How many goals is it now, eight in nine games? That’s hugely impressive from a winger in a team in the middle of the Premier League, that’s not normal,” he said (via the Ealing Times).
Newcastle fans would be delighted with the signing of Bryan Mbeumo
At only 25, the forward looks of the age profile PIF have generally targeted since the takeover.
Already proven in the Premier League and with his best years still ahead of him, surely few would doubt a move to sign the Bees star would be seriously exciting.
Indeed, a host of Newcastle fans have been speaking positively about the idea of bringing Mbeumo to St James’ Park, having watched his performance against the Tractor Boys.
After some questionable transfer calls of late, Mbeumo would be a statement signing.
