Pedro Neto set to sign for Premier League rivals after Newcastle United links

As Newcastle United step up their search for a centre-back, they are about to miss out on another winger.

The Magpies are focussing their efforts on Marc Guehi right now, with the 24-year-old identified as the right-sided centre-back that Toon officials want.

Newcastle have had a second Guehi bid rejected, but there is still hope of reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace.

If Newcastle can agree a deal for the England international, they will then look to bring in a right winger. However, Newcastle may need to sell first if they spend big on Guehi.

But even if the Magpies do end up having enough cash to sign an attacker, their list of options is dwindling.

Eddie Howe wanted Michael Olise at Newcastle, but he has joined Bayern Munich. Elsewhere, Crysencio Summerville has signed for West Ham after links with the Magpies.

Now another player that Newcastle United have looked at is heading elsewhere.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea are set to sign Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Athletic state that the Blues have agreed a deal worth £54million in total, £2.6million of which is add-ons.

They add that Neto will soon undergo a medical, as he prepares to swap Molineux for Stamford Bridge.

Pedro Neto joining Chelsea is a huge blow

Gary O’Neil recently said Neto can go if Wolves receive a massive offer, and that is exactly what has happened.

However, the offer is from Chelsea rather than the Magpies. Newcastle had held talks with Neto’s agent, but it is Enzo Maresca’s side who are set to land the Portugal international.

That is a huge blow, as Neto looked ideal to join the Magpies’ attack. He has incredible speed, and is much more decisive in the final third compared to someone like Miguel Almiron.

The only concern when it came to Neto was his injury record, given the problems he has had during his Wolves career.

But those concerns will be Chelsea’s rather than Newcastle’s, as Neto prepares to take his talents to the capital.
