There is a deal to be done if Newcastle United decide to formalise their interest in one of the wingers they have been linked with this summer.

That is the view of Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil, who has spoke about Pedro Neto‘s future at Molineux.

The 24-year-old is being linked with a move away from Wolves during this summer’s transfer window, with Newcastle interested in signing Neto.

Geordie Boot Boys were recently told that Newcastle have held talks with Neto’s representatives, with the attacker set to cost £60million.

That is a huge amount of money, and a fee that would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever behind Alexander Isak.

Gary O’Neil addresses Pedro Neto’s future at Wolves

While Newcastle would probably prefer to spend less than £60million on Neto, they have now been made aware that Wolves will sell the Portugal international if they receive a ‘massive’ offer.

That is according to his manager Gary O’Neil, who has spoke to the E&S Wolves Podcast about Neto’s future.

“I know how good he is, and I know how well he would do at a big club,” he said.

“Obviously I want our team here to be unbelievably successful. So I’m hoping that he stays.

“I think so (there’s a chance he stays). There’s nothing going on at this moment from anybody. He’s in a good spot, I’ve spoke to him about how we’re going to play and how it suits him and what a big part he’ll play in it.

“But of course, we’re all grown-ups while you’re having them conversations. If a massive bid comes from a top club then no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way.

“I’m confident that he will be here. Because we haven’t had anything really, that makes the club think that he won’t be.

“But of course, a lot of business can be done late.”

Neto expected to leave as Newcastle linger

O’Neil is hopeful that Wolves can keep Neto, but he may not get his wish.

That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has told Geordie Boot Boys that Neto is still expected to leave Wolves before the transfer window closes.

He said: “We do expect Neto to leave Wolves. There are a lot of clubs that want him.”

That is promising for Newcastle, who could really benefit from signing a player of his calibre. However, the major concern with Neto is his injury record, and that will be on Newcastle’s mind as they ponder whether to come in with an offer.

A massive bid, possibly worth as much as £60million, is a huge commitment for a player who has had major fitness problems in recent years. It might be enough to make Newcastle think twice about signing Neto, as they continue to search for a new right winger.
