Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell has been busy working on exits this transfer window.
From an arrivals perspective, it has been non-existent at Newcastle United. However, the club has worked tirelessly to move players on in an attempt to get one over on the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Sporting director Paul Mitchell has overseen two big departures from Newcastle’s first-team that will generate a lot of money and remove a big chunk from their wage bill.
Miguel Almiron left Newcastle for Atlanta United in a move worth around £11m – his £60,000-a-week wage went with him.
Elsewhere, Lloyd Kelly had his Juventus medical on Sunday night ahead of a move to the Italian giants. The 26-year-old only started four Premier League games but Newcastle will bag around £20m from the deal.
Reports revealed that Kelly earned £100,000-a-week at Newcastle – the club are set to save well over £20m in wages from his exit.
As Newcastle wind up one departure, new transfer reports from Australia suggest that they could sanction another deal.

Macarthur FC eye Garang Kuol loan move
20-year-old Garang Kuol looks to have finally settled in at Newcastle following several loan spells away from the club.
The Australian joined in 2023 after appearing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Kuol has had spells on loan at Hearts and Voldendam but failed to set the world alight in either spell.
According to AAP, A-League side Macarthur FC are eyeing a loan deal for Kuol. The attacker has impressed for Newcastle’s under-21s in recent weeks – Kuol scored his first Newcastle goal in a Premier League 2 defeat to Southampton in January.
Reports earlier in the window had stated that Kuol can leave Newcastle on loan but no teams have made an official approach for him.
Mcarthur sits sixth in the A-League, nine points off the leaders Auckland FC. Newcastle still do hold the Australian in high regard. Kuol was recently spotted training with Newcastle’s first team ahead of a Premier League clash.

Newcastle coach has high praise for Garang Kuol
The Magpies have put a lot more focus on the academy since the takeover in October 2021. Promising young players have been brought to the club like Alfie Harrison and Cathal Heffernan – Kuol was the signing that got Newcastle’s youth recruitment drive going.
His hard work behind the scenes has not gone unnoticed by Newcastle staff. Diarmuid O’Carroll, the Magpies under-21s head coach is a big fan of the Australian.
O’Carroll called Kuol an ‘exciting talent’ after he netted against Gateshead in the National League Cup.
“But we need to manage him,” he said. “Get him working a little bit harder and his quality comes out. He’s a joy to work with.
“It’s about individual development. I look at him as a very good project, someone I believe has the talent to play at a very high level. He excites me. So far, I’ve got a good reaction from Garang and there’s more to come.”
