Just a few days ago, it looked like everyone was leaving Newcastle United. Now no one is leaving.

It has been a wild week for Newcastle United, who have dominated the gossip columns with talk of players leaving St James’ Park.

The likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles and Miguel Almiron have all been linked with leaving, at a time when Newcastle need to sell before they can buy. This is due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

With so many players rumoured to be leaving, it felt like there would at least be a chance for the Magpies to bring someone in during the January transfer window. However, that no longer looks likely.

Bayern no longer want Trippier, talk of Wilson leaving has gone quiet and Lascelles has said he wants to remain on Tyneside.

Now a new report states that Almiron shares the skipper’s stance.

Miguel Almiron wants to stay at Newcastle United

According to the Chronicle, Almiron has told Newcastle United officials that he does not want to leave the club this month. They state that the 29-year-old loves life in the North East, with his family eager to remain where they are.

That should end all speculation over a move to Saudi Arabia for Almiron. It has been claimed that he is a target for Al-Shabab, with Newcastle looking for a fee in the region of £30million.

There have been reports that a deal was agreed between the two parties, despite Almiron not giving any indication that he was willing to move to Saudi Arabia.

Now the Paraguay international has put his cards on the table, and has made it clear that he does not want to be sold this month. That is not a major surprise, but it could result in a quiet end to the January transfer window for Newcastle.

It is clear that the club need reinforcements, but that is not likely to be possible unless someone leaves. Almiron looked like the most likely candidate to depart, but now a Toon exit appears to have been ruled out.
