It will be fascinating to see what happens with Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

There have been suggestions that Newcastle have money to spend in the New Year sales, though it remains to be seen if that really is the case.

Still, owners PIF are understood to view this season as a great chance to attack the Premier League’s top five, all while making deep runs in both domestic cup competitions.

With that in mind, it would surely make sense to reinforce Eddie Howe’s squad, with a new right-winger now said to be a priority despite the prolonged pursuit of Marc Guehi in the summer window just gone.

Players, of course, will also have to leave St James’ Park at some point.

Kieran Trippier has been linked with a move away from the club, while a fresh update has emerged in regards to a player hailed as a “monster” by the Newcastle United manager.

One club is now in pole position to sign Callum Wilson from Newcastle

According to The Sun, forward Callum Wilson is something of a target for four Premier League clubs in January.

Fulham, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Brentford are all said to be keeping a close eye on his situation, with the Bees understood to have moved into pole position.

Clubs would be stupid to give Newcastle money for Callum Wilson

When fit, Wilson’s ability can hardly be doubted.

Still, despite being a prolific goalscorer at Premier League level, it’s unclear as to why anyone would be foolish enough to part with actual cash for Wilson, particularly in a PSR-dominated world.

Frustratingly injury prone, not getting any younger and out of contract at Newcastle in 2025 anyway, it would seem like a risk to pay a transfer fee for the England striker.

That is not a reflection on the player’s quality, just the situation he’s currently in.
