Newcastle United have not been brilliant at selling during the PIF era.
Indeed, it was reportedly a frustration Newcastle had with Dan Ashworth, having struggled to shift players on for significant sums since the takeover.
Prior to the PSR frenzy that saw Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh depart St James’ Park against Eddie Howe’s will, Chris Wood and Allan Saint-Maximin were the only two who left the club for anything approaching genuine sums.
While Newcastle are now thought to have made it to the other side of the PSR tightrope, selling in general is clearly something the club need to get better at. PIF, after all, were said to have been unhappy with how messy the situation got in June.
Now, they’ve been urged to sell one of their key players, albeit one who is seemingly facing an exit anyway.
Olivier Bernard suggests Newcastle should sell Kieran Trippier
Former Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard has suggested the club should sell Kieran Trippier this summer.
The defender is reportedly attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, having struggled at times in the second half of last season.
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle’s Total Sport Programme, Bernard said: “Trippier is a very bankable player at the minute because he’s an England player and I don’t think he will be in two years, so if you want to let him go, do it now.”

Kieran Trippier is already considering his options at Newcastle
Trippier himself may want to leave this summer in pursuit of a new challenge.
He was said to have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich in January and could now be off six months later than planned.
Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys, HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey claimed that the club would not stand in the England man’s way should he wish to depart, as good as he’s been since joining from Atletico Madrid.
“The expectation by the end of August is that Trippier will be gone from Newcastle United,” he said.
“It’s hard to see where yet – it could be Saudi Arabia, it could be Turkey. I imagine he would rather go to Bayern.”
Trippier can leave with his head held high but perhaps this is the right time for all parties.
A fantastic signing at an important time in the club’s history, he will surely go down as a modern-day Newcastle legend.
