Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron has fallen out of favour with Eddie Howe this season.
Almiron has had to settle for sporadic appearances for Newcastle so far this season, but his exit looks like it could happen soon.
The 30-year-old has made just seven appearances for Newcastle so far in this campaign – all of them have come from the bench. Almiron is set to depart Newcastle in January, with several clubs around the world keen on signing him.
Reports in January suggested a Brazilian top-flight side made an offer for Almiron, however, a consistent stumbling block seems to be agent fees and wage demands.
Charlotte FC want Almiron, there were reports that Charlotte boss Dean Smith was keen to bring the Paraguayan back to the MLS in the summer, but a move never materialised.
On Wednesday, Almiron was spotted in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport – fans speculated that he was about to complete a move away from Newcastle.
Reports elsewhere have suggested that Martin Dubravka could leave Newcastle in favour of a move to Al-Shabab, however, recent reports suggest Newcastle are trying to convince Dubravka to stay.
However, Daniel Campos, Almiron’s agent has confirmed the reason for the trip and commented on recent transfer speculation.

Almiron’s agent quashes Newcastle exit rumours
Campos has been very vocal about his client in recent months. In November, he confirmed Almiron wasn’t happy with his Newcastle game-time with Jacob Murphy now Howe’s preferred choice on the right wing.
Before the summer transfer window, he also suggested that there were Premier League clubs interested in Almiron. The links ended up coming to nothing.
Now, Campos took to Radio Monumental AM 1080 in Paraguay to comment on the speculation. He confirmed that Almiron was in Paris for a holiday with his family.
He stated that has “offers from many places” but insisted they were “not official”.
Campos also stated that any interested party must convince Newcastle to sell Almiron before moving forward with any negotiations.
Almiron’s contract isn’t up until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, so Newcastle still have time to bag a sizable fee for him should he leave before his contract expiry.
Newcastle expect several January departures
Sporting director Paul Mitchell knows Newcastle need outgoings to fund signings in January – thankfully for him, there’s no shortage of players who could depart.
Left-back Matt Targett can leave Newcastle on loan in January, the 29-year-old has played just two minutes of Premier League football this season as Lewis Hall continues to shine in his position.
Elsewhere, longstanding star Sean Longstaff could also leave in January. Longstaff would generate pure profit for Newcastle due to his academy links.
His future gives Mitchell lots to think about, if Newcastle qualify for European football next season they will need homegrown talent for squad registration reasons.
