Newcastle United told new price to hijack Omar Marmoush deal as Manchester City stall

Newcastle United have fallen behind Manchester City in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.

A new striker is on Newcastle United’s shopping list but it certainly isn’t a top priority. On top of that, the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules threaten to derail Newcastle’s transfer plans.

Reports suggest Paul Mitchell has a £70m budget this month, but any major incomings will have to be answered with sales in order for Newcastle to avoid a points deduction in the summer.

Eddie Howe expects a quiet January, but Newcastle are keeping a lookout for any transfer opportunities to pounce on.

Signing a new right winger is the top priority, with Miguel Almiron likely to leave this month. Omar Marmoush ticks two boxes in one with the 25-year-old able to play as a striker and on the right. The only problem is that he is also wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Newcastle United interest in Omar Marmoush

Marmoush has been one of Europe’s most in-form strikers this season with 18 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Only Harry Kane has scored more than Marmoush in the Bundesliga this season, so it makes sense that he has started to catch the attention of European giants.

Newcastle have been linked with Marmoush for several months with the Egyptian star compared to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush appeared to rule out an exit this month, but fresh reports suggests he is inching closer to a Premier League move.

The only problem is that Manchester City are currently leading the race.

Newcastle could hijack Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush deal

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that City have already opened talks for Marmoush, with the young forward eager to move to England.

However, City are yet to agree a price with Frankfurt, who are standing firm on their asking price for Marmoush.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Frankfurt are demanding around £67m for Marmoush, whereas City are only willing to bid £42-£50m for the Egyptian star.

With both clubs stalling in negotiations over a final fee, it opens the door for Newcastle to hijack the deal. However, it seems unlikely that Newcastle will be able to find £67m lying around to pip City to his signature.
