Newcastle United have been linked with a new defender for what feels like an age now.
While Lloyd Kelly did arrive over the course of the summer, Newcastle tried and failed to sign Marc Guehi.
The club are believed to remain interested in Guehi, albeit it seems as if the Palace defender isn’t going anywhere this month.
By the time the summer rolls around, rival interest in the England international could prove something of a complication.
So, with sporting director Paul Mitchell reportedly keen to scour the market further afield, other names have been linked.

Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov is one of them, albeit Manchester City have recently been touted as his most likely destination.
Now, a fresh report suggests Newcastle could instead move for Khusanov’s teammate, Kevin Danso.
The Austrian came through the youth ranks at MK Dons and previously played for Southampton before rebuilding his career with the French club.
Newcastle United interested in Kevin Danso

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle have shown a strong interest in the 26-year-old central defender. Wolves and West Ham are also thought to be keen.
The likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma, Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce and Villarreal have also been credited with an interest.
For their part, Lens are believed to be looking for around £20-£25million for Danso.
Newcastle United transfer target Kevin Danso used to think football was boring
Danso was touted as a Newcastle target way back in April 2023, so he would hardly be a new addition to the club’s radar.
Interestingly, it seems Danso has come on leaps and bounds.
He’s played in the Champions League, which is a long way from being a rotational option at Southampton.
In fact, Danso seemingly didn’t use to enjoy playing football at all.
Speaking to The Athletic in 2022, he revealed that he found playing the sport “boring” before falling in love with it during his time at MK Dons.
“The reason I fell in love with football is because of my time at MK Dons,” he said.
“Before then, I thought football was the most boring thing.”
