Newcastle United are reportedly looking to make a move for Austrian international defender Kevin Danso from RC Lens.
A report on French site JeunesFooteux has claimed that Newcastle could ‘go on the offensive’ for Kevin Danso following a successful season with RC Lens.
However, they also state that should Lens qualify for the Champions League he may be content to stay in France, but it seems Lens are already scouting for replacements should they lose their defensive colossus this summer.
Danso spent a season in the Premier League with Southampton
If the name is familiar, Danso spent a season on loan at Southampton from Bundesliga side Augsburg in the 2019/20 season making six appearances for the South Coast club. During those six outings Danso played across the back line with Southampton seemingly unable to pin him down to one position.
The Saints chose not to exercise their option to buy the defender at the end of his loan spell after not using the Austrian beyond November of that season other than to fill a spot on the bench.

Danso was loaned out by Augsburg again the following season to German second division outfit, Fortuna Dusseldorf where he had a much better time making 32 appearances as catching the eye of RC Lens who snapped him up for around £4.5million in the summer of 2021.
Danso could be a possible future replacement for Schar
He’s now a mainstay at the heart of the Lens defence, playing every minute for the club in all competitions this season except for one cup game when he was suspended. He’s also an established Austrian international. The 24-year-old has made 13 senior caps for his country.
Danso certainly looks like a dependable squad player, but whether he’s got what it takes to oust Fabian Schar from the starting lineup I’m not sure. He is a good few years younger than the Swiss international and could be seen as the one to take over from Schar in the future.
There’s no indication in the report to suggest a value for Danso but I wouldn’t expect it to be overly high, which is why Newcastle could be looking to swoop in quickly to prevent a bidding war with any other clubs who may be hovering.
