Newcastle United are preparing to sell Lloyd Kelly to Serie A side Juventus on a loan with an obligation to buy.
It has been a wild week from a departures perspective at Newcastle United. Fans saw Miguel Almiron return to Atlanta United after six years on Tyneside.
On Saturday night it was revealed that Newcastle agreed a deal with Juventus for Lloyd Kelly which would see him move to the Italian giants for a fee of around £15m with add-ons. The club also managed to get a sell-on clause for the 26-year-old.
Kelly has agreed a contract and is set to fly to Turin on Sunday to complete a medical for the move. The defender had only been seen on the pitch by Newcastle fans hours before the news broke, he was a late substitute in Newcastle’s defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
Newcastle are not looking to make signings before the transfer window closes on Monday night, despite the sudden influx of money that they are receiving. Eddie Howe will be down to the bare bones in the attacking department for the rest of the season if they fail to make a signing.
While it looks like Newcastle are about to wrap up another departure, Luke Edwards has now shared some rather shocking news that fans did not expect.

Lloyd Kelly may not leave Newcastle United
It looked as if Kelly’s deal was all done and dusted – he would leave Newcastle after such a short stay at the club.
However, Luke Edwards has not claimed that he is ‘not certain’ Kelly will be travelling to Italy for his medical.
It was reported that Kelly’s flight was due to leave Newcastle on Sunday morning but has been delayed due to unknown reasons.
By no means does this mean the deal is off, but the message is sure to be a cause for concern for Newcastle fans.
Kelly wants to leave Newcastle after growing unhappy with his game time at the club. The 26-year-old has only played 10 Premier League games this season and has fallen down the list of Howe’s preferred defensive options.
Newcastle do not want to sell Kelly, despite the interest he has had. Howe believes Kelly is an ‘integral’ part of Newcastle’s squad even though he has barely featured for the club this season.
Why Lloyd Kelly has barely played for Newcastle United
Kelly will understandably be disappointed at the lack of games he has played since joining Newcastle in the summer.
Many believed that Kelly would improve under Howe – fans have seen small glimpses of his quality but not enough for him to warrant a place ahead of the likes of Dan Burn or Fabian Schar.
Howe has been asked why Kelly has not played as much this season. He admitted it was purely down to the form of his first-choice defenders who have performed well enough to keep their places in the starting XI.
With Kelly being a left-footed defender he is more likely to take the place of Burn or even Lewis Hall at left-back if need be. The pair have performed exceptionally this season which has understandably made it difficult for Howe to drop them.
Kelly has only made four Premier League starts so far this season. The defender last played a full 90 minutes in the FA Cup against Bromley.
