Newcastle United’s scouts have been very active recently because of Paul Mitchell.

It is clear that after a disappointing January transfer window, Newcastle United want to be active in the summer transfer window. Sporting director Paul Mitchell has been busy working on attracting young prospects to the club and sending scouts on missions across Europe.

Newcastle are set to sign Antonio Cordero from Malaga after Mitchell held successful talks with the 18-year-old over a pre-contract.

The Magpies may look to loan the winger out for his first season on Tyneside but he could be a valuable asset for Toon boss Eddie Howe who is desperate for new right-sided attackers.

Earlier this week, Newcastle scouts watched Celtic’s Nicholas Kuhn play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The 25-year-old has scored 17 goals and bagged 11 assists in all competitions this campaign.

With a winger high on the list of priorities, Newcastle scouts watched a Brazilian star put in a spectacular performance against a former Premier League star.

Newcastle scouts watch Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao

Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao was a standout player in the Dutch side’s win over AC Milan on Wednesday night. The Brazilian scored the only goal of the game but caused problems for former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker throughout the game.

So far this campaign, Paixao has 22 goal involvements in all competitions this season including two goals in the Champions League.

According to SunSport, Newcastle and Bournemouth both had scouts in Rotterdam to watch the 24-year-old earn the Player of the Match award. The report also suggests that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the winger.

Paixao is believed to be desperate to move to the Premier League in the summer after impressing in Holland after signing from Coritiba FC in 2022.

The Brazilian worked alongside former Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh last season where they won the Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup.

Igor Paixao could replace Harvey Barnes at Newcastle

While Newcastle are in the market for a right-sided attacker, Paixao is predominantly a left-sided player. He can play on the right but has been utilised on the other side of the pitch for most of the season.

However, Harvey Barnes could leave Newcastle in the summer. In January, Newcastle placed a £45m price tag on Barnes as they opened themselves up to offers for the winger.

It has been a rocky season for the 27-year-old who has struggled to make a name for himself in Newcastle’s first-team squad – Barnes has scored five goals in 20 Premier League appearances this campaign but has been missing for the last month with a muscle problem.

It has been a familiar story for Barnes since signing from Newcastle in 2023. He missed 31 games last season with foot and hamstring issues.

In addition to his injury problems, Barnes has been frozen out of Howe’s starting XI because of how well Anthony Gordon has performed for the Magpies this season. Should Paixao join in the summer. He will need to do everything to impress Howe to be in with a chance of overtaking the England international in the pecking order.
