Newcastle United have agreed to sell Alexander Isak, in a decision that will shock Alan Shearer.
The deal is getting done, with Liverpool set to sign Isak for £125million.
The Magpies’ summer has been ruined by this saga, and it is ending with Newcastle agreeing to sell Isak for less money than they intended.
They are also agreeing to sell him without the guarantee of a replacement arriving.
It is an incredibly risky strategy by Newcastle United, and one that Alan Shearer did not foresee.

Newcastle United will leave Alan Shearer shocked with Alexander Isak decision
Speaking on the latest episode of the Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer admitted that he would be surprised if Newcastle agreed to let Isak go to Liverpool without bringing in another forward first.
“Newcastle haven’t got one of the players that they want in,” he said.
“I’d be surprised if Newcastle let him go without getting another forward in.”
Interestingly, Shearer’s comments came before an agreement between Newcastle and Liverpool was reached.
The Magpies are doing exactly what Shearer thought they would not, but there remains hope that a replacement could arrive.
Newcastle United’s striker options if Alexander Isak is not replaced
It is quite staggering that Newcastle are letting Isak leave without any certainty of a replacement arriving.
They have bought one striker this summer, with Nick Woltemade joining Newcastle for a club-record fee of £69million. He becomes Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, but all he has done is replace Callum Wilson.
If another forward does not arrive, there will be huge pressure on the 23-year-old to deliver in black and white.
His main understudy will be Anthony Gordon, who had started the season as Newcastle’s striker amid Isak’s refusal to play.
Newcastle’s third option will be Will Osula, who has scored one goal this season. That came in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.
Osula got his first Premier League start for the club against Leeds on Saturday, but was unable to prove to Eddie Howe that he is capable of stepping up. Osula struggled against Leeds, but could still get plenty more opportunities to play this season if another striker does not arrive on deadline day.
