Newcastle United continue to be linked with PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.
As pointed out by Eddie Howe this week, Newcastle United’s squad is starting to become stale.
An underwhelming summer transfer window dampened the mood around St James’ Park and the lack of transfer business seems to have stalled Newcastle’s progress under PIF.
Ultimately, the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules are to blame. Newcastle’s transfer budget has been shackled and the Magpies have had no option but to sell some of their brightest talents.
Reinforcements are needed in January and Newcastle are prioritising a new right-sided winger with Miguel Almiron likely to leave in 2025.

Newcastle United interested in Johan Bakayoko
Several wingers have been linked with a move to Tyneside in January with Newcastle showing an interest in Ademola Lookman.
Southampton’s Tyler Dibling is also on Newcastle’s radar, while Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s ‘dream’ signing.
Fresh reports now claim Newcastle will pursue Johan Bakayoko in 2025.
It is claimed that Howe is a big admirer of Bakayoko and the entirety of Newcastle’s recruitment team are in agreement that he would be a good addition to the squad.
Bakayoko has been in fine form in the Netherlands, scoring six goals and providing three assists so far this season.
Newcastle United fans react to Johan Bakayoko links
While Bakayoko is seen as an exciting signing by almost every at Newcastle, supporters were quick to pick up on one key detail from the transfer report.
As per The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, a deal for Bakayoko in January has been described as “very difficult”.
Via X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “Is it possible for #nufc to chase a deal that isn’t “difficult” to do?”
A second supporter added: “PSR. What a joke. How can we be in this position after 3 years. Madness”
A third wrote: “So basically what your saying is even though we’ve got new sponsorship deals the club is pretty much breaking even each season and can’t buy. How the hell are all these other clubs managing to buy players every season without issue but soon as we try it’s all FFP issues”.
One fan is expecting another drawn-out transfer saga: “So another 4 week saga like Guehi and then we sign no one. Fantastic. We deserve nothing other than mid table mediocrity.”
Another posted: “PSV demands more the 40M for him. At this point, there is no chance Newcastle can afford him.”
