Newcastle United’s interest in Johan Bakayoko is growing stronger.
The Magpies are looking for attacking reinforcements in 2025, with Newcastle set to prioritise a right winger in January.
The likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo have been linked, but will likely be too expensive for Newcastle United.
With that in mind, Paul Mitchell is casting a wider net and targeting players from further afield.
That has resulted in Newcastle United watching Johan Bakayoko at PSV Eindhoven. Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Paul Mitchell is a fan of Bakayoko, who is likely to leave the Dutch club in 2025.
The Newcastle United sporting director likes Bakayoko, and so does the Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

Eddie Howe’s view on Newcastle target Johan Bakayoko
The two Toon chiefs are collaborating on Newcastle’s transfer plans, and it sounds like they are in agreement over the Belgium international.
According to the Telegraph, Eddie Howe thinks Bakayoko would be a good addition to his attack at Newcastle, with every member of the Toon recruitment team an admirer of the 21-year-old.
The fact that Howe and Mitchell are in agreement over Bakayoko is very encouraging, as we desperately need them to be aligned – especially when it comes to recruitment.
Whether Newcastle can sign Bakayoko from PSV in January
But while everyone at Newcastle appears to think that Bakayoko would be a good signing, that does not necessarily mean a deal will be achievable in January.
The Telegraph add it will be very difficult to sign Bakayoko when the January transfer window opens, as PSV do not want to lose a star player midway through the season.
While a deal will be difficult, it might not be impossible.
Hopefully Newcastle do test the water with an approach – just to see whether a transfer to St James’ Park could be achievable in January.
Bakayoko is certainly the type of player that the Magpies need. He can be a game-changer on the right of attack, cutting inside on his favoured left foot. That is what he has been doing for PSV this season, with Bakayoko boasting six goals and three assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.
He would be a massive upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, and it will be interesting to see whether or not Newcastle can afford to bring him to Tyneside in January. Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle may need to sell before they buy, with Almiron linked with a move away.
If a January deal is not possible, the Magpies’ Bakayoko interest will be put on hold until the summer.
