A big summer is expected at Newcastle United.

While the January transfer window proved a frustrating time for the club amid FFP limitations, that may not be the case this summer.

Indeed, reports from iNews last month suggested Newcastle fans can expect a large summer rebuild as PIF look to invest yet more money into Eddie Howe’s squad.

Given the frustrating nature of this season, that is a real positive.

Now, some insight into who Newcastle may actually target has emerged.

Newcastle transfers: Latest news

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle hold a firm interest in three Bournemouth players.

The path from the Vitality Stadium up to St James’ Park was been well trodden of late, with all of Matt Ritchie, Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Howe having done so.

Dominic Solanke is again touted as a target in this report amid links with the move in January. The Cherries, however, are believed to be ready to ask for as much as £50m for their forward.

Elsewhere, Philip Billing is said to remain on the radar, albeit he may also cost a “hefty fee”. Finally, defender Lloyd Kelly is thought to be of interest but may be the subject of a bidding war, with as many as 10 Premier League clubs all keen.

Interestingly, the report adds that Newcastle had contact with Bournemouth over potential prices during the January window.

Newcastle transfer news: Rebuild needed

Whether or not those three players are exactly the right type of signings for Newcastle is up for debate. Talented as they may be, simply signing players from Bournemouth does not feel like much of a coherent strategy, particularly considering how good the recruitment has largely been during the PIF era up until now.

Still, what’s obvious is that a rebuild is needed. Newcastle have lacked compelling options off the bench and could see the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson all depart this summer.

Hopefully, the summer can be better than January.
