Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that there’s one key Newcastle United player who definitely won’t be at the club next season.
There were a number of players who were linked with moves away last month, but ultimately nothing came to fruition as Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles all stayed at the club.
However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has now claimed that Almiron will be leaving Newcastle in the summer despite rejecting a move to Saudi Arabia in January.
Jones thinks Newcastle will have a summer overhaul
It’s shaping up to be a pretty important summer window after what’s been such a frustrating and eye opening season with the never-ending injury list and slump in form in the last two months.
One thing is clear for Eddie Howe and that is that Newcastle can’t expect to compete with such little squad depth and that they need some big signings in the next window.
While they do have Champions League and Adidas money coming in, it still may not be enough and Newcastle may be forced to sell some players like Almiron to raise fund for new players.
Jones believes that there will be a big push heading into the summer to make as much money as possible, and in doing so there is likely to be a big overhaul in the squad that could see some key names leave.
On Almiron, Jones said: “I think we will see a reasonable overhaul of that Newcastle team in the summer. Newcastle made it pretty clear that they didn’t have massive potential to spend in the transfer market.
“Between now and the summer, I think we will see a big push to define exactly who is going to be part of the squad going forward. I think they will have a big commercial push to bring in extra money and revenue.
“Players like Almiron will certainly move on. He won’t be at Newcastle next season even though he didn’t move during the winter window.”

Newcastle need to learn to be ruthless
For the last 18 months or so Newcastle have been thoroughly enjoying this completely unexpected change of form from being relegation candidates to Champions League qualifiers.
There’s almost been a sense of just being happy to be involved after two decades out of the tournament, and that’s fair enough, but at some point the expectations have to be raised.
Newcastle can’t just be happy to be involved from this season on, if they want to be taken seriously then they’re going to have to put sentiment to the side and start being ruthless in their decisions to improve the squad and the club’s long-term future.
