Newcastle United are looking to sell one of their most important players from the last few seasons in the upcoming summer window.

The injury record of Callum Wilson is proving difficult to deal with for Eddie Howe and Newcastle are likely to want to move him on at the next opportunity with just over a year left on his contract.

However, a new report from TEAMtalk has suggested that the £20m striker would not want to move abroad amid interest from MLS and Saudi Pro League clubs and would prefer to stay in England.

Newcastle can’t cope with Wilson’s injury record

Wilson is a very talented striker there’s absolutely no doubt about that and there’s sure to be a whole host of clubs who will want to take him on, but he’s not somebody you can rely on as a top club.

So far this season, the 31-year-old has missed eight Premier League games through injury and now looks to be a doubt for the upcoming clash against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

With Alexander Isak also out that puts Newcastle in a very tricky position with no recognised striker and it only makes it more of a pressing matter that they find a replacement in the summer.

Newcastle would be losing a fair amount of goals by selling the former Bournemouth man who has seven this season and recorded a career high high of 18 in the top flight last year, but it’s a risk they obviously feel they need to take.

Newcastle need to be ruthless to get to the top

As previously hinted at, Wilson has been a brilliant servant for the club ever since he was signed by Steve Bruce in 2020, but there comes a time when a player is no longer of use to the club.

This summer is effectively the last chance Newcastle will have to receive any kind of decent fee for the striker whose contract will expire in 2025 and it’s important they recoup some of the fee to help out with FFP.

That money can then be used on finding a new forward who invested in another area of the squad, but it ultimately feels pointless to keep the attacker at the club for another season only to let him leave for free in a years time.

Newcastle will already have started the search for a new player to lead the line and play backup to Isak, so it looks like this could be the final six months Wilson has in a black and white shirt.
