Newcastle United have been given the opportunity to send Callum Wilson to one of their Premier League rivals, but have turned it down.
The 31-year-old has been heavily linked with a move way from St James’ Park this month, with claims that he has been offered to various clubs.
He has been named as a target for Chelsea, who are in need of a striker like Callum Wilson. They need a reliable goalscorer, which is why they have made a move for the Magpies’ number nine.
However, they did not get their desired response.
Newcastle reject Chelsea approach for Callum Wilson
According to journalist Simon Phillips on Substack, Chelsea have asked Newcastle about signing Callum Wilson on loan. However, he states that the approach was rejected, as the Magpies are only interested in a permanent departure.
That is an understandable decision, as loaning Wilson out would not benefit Newcastle. It is not like he needs to leave to get first-team minutes. He will be a regular at St James’ Park if he stays.
But he is one of Newcastle’s saleable assets. The Magpies want £18million for him, as that would then allow the club to reinvest and bring in reinforcements.

Newcastle need to sell before they buy – not loan before they buy.
Regardless, letting Wilson go under any circumstances will be considered a massive risk. He is one of only two senior strikers at the club right now, and allowing him to depart would leave Eddie Howe ridiculously light in attack.
Newcastle do eventually need to replace Wilson, but it does not feel like this is the right time. That would be better suited to the summer, especially if Chelsea’s best offer right now is just a loan approach.
Eddie Howe’s side have said no, and that is absolutely the correct decision.
