Newcastle United fans have not seen much of Joe Willock this season, and there was almost a chance that they might never see him in black and white again.

The Magpies are looking to cash in on someone before the January transfer window closes, with the club needing to sell before they buy. That has created a difficult situation that could lead to one of Eddie Howe’s most important players leaving the club.

It won’t be Kieran Trippier after he confirmed he is staying, but there remains interest in Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson. The former’s situation is very interesting, as he was not involved against Fulham on Saturday night due to illness.

He is a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia, but one Newcastle player who will not be leaving this month is Joe Willock – despite interest from elsewhere.

Newcastle are not selling Joe Willock

According to the Sun, Newcastle have decided that Willock is not for sale this month after multiple clubs enquired about signing the 24-year-old.

But the Magpies are adamant that Willock is going nowhere, as he edges closer to a return to fitness.

The midfielder has been a big miss this season, with hamstring and Achilles injuries limiting him to just six appearances in all competitions.

Given how good he was last season, it has been massively disappointing to see him struggle so much with injuries. He has been a major miss, which is why there is a lot of excitement at the fact his comeback could be imminent.

Selling Willock would be a crazy decision. He is simply too good. The £25million man is an exceptional player, and someone who is only going to keep getting better.

The only stories that fans want to read about Willock are ones surrounding his return from injury, not an exit from Newcastle.

Given the club’s situation, clubs have chanced their luck to see if the Magpies will sell the former Arsenal man. But Newcastle’s stance is firm – Joe Willock is going nowhere, and rightly so.
