Newcastle are still intrigued by £18m Chelsea player who loves Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United have two Brazilian midfielders in Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, but they tried to make it three at the start of the year.

The Magpies were heavily linked with signing South American teenager Andrey Santos, and were reportedly confident of a deal at one point in time.

However, Santos instead signed for Chelsea, joining the Blues for £18million.

The youngster made a strong impression at Chelsea over the summer, but has now been loaned out to Nottingham Forest. Sadly for Santos, he is struggling for minutes at the City Ground, having played just once for Steve Cooper’s side so far.

As for Newcastle, they splashed out on Sandro Tonali in the summer, but could be about to lose the Italy international. That is because Tonali is being investigated for betting, and looks set to receive a ban.

That may force Newcastle to sign a replacement, and Andrey Santos is reportedly still a player who is admired inside the corridors of St James’ Park.

According to 90min, Andrey Santos is still a player who intrigues Newcastle United.

They state that the Magpies could revive their interest in the 19-year-old in January. However, there are multiple obstacles that mean there is pretty much no chance of a deal.

Firstly, he is already on loan at Forest. We would need that deal to be terminated to give us any chance of signing him at the start of 2024.

Secondly, any deal would have to be permanent as we already have one player on loan from Chelsea in Lewis Hall and are unable to sign a second amid Premier League regulations.

Even still, why would Chelsea sell? They have only just bought Santos, and brought him in because of his potential. It would be a major surprise if they decided to let him go after less than a year.

It is a shame for Newcastle, as Santos did look like he would be a perfect signing for the Magpies. He would have joined an already impressive Brazilian contingent, and Santos is certainly a fan of Newcastle’s main man in midfield.

Santos previously called Bruno Guimaraes ‘phenomenal’, while he congratulated the 25-year-old when he was named in Brazil’s World Cup squad last year.

Even as recently as Saturday, he commented on Bruno’s Instagram, praising the midfielder after Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

But while Santos is clearly a major talent and someone who Newcastle really like, there is surely no chance of him heading to the North East any time soon.
