Newcastle United are on the hunt for a new centre-back signing and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is towards the top of the list.
Having eased Newcastle United’s PSR issues this season, Paul Mitchell wants three major signings in the summer and a right-sided centre-back is very much a top priority.
Newcastle bid for Marc Guehi last summer but saw their offers rejected by Crystal Palace. The Magpies could explore a deal for the England international again this summer, but they will not put all their eggs in one basket.
Therefore, Newcastle are showing interest in Dean Huijsen following his impressive season with Bournemouth.
Huijsen is expected to cost £50m which is well within Mitchell’s budget, but Newcastle are aware that there is plenty of competition for the 19-year-old’s signature.

Dean Huijsen told which club to join amid Newcastle interest
Both Liverpool and Real Madrid like Huijsen, so Newcastle will have to compete with Europe’s elite if they plan on winning the race for his signature.
Newcastle are confident they can compete financially, and with Eddie Howe’s side chasing Champions League qualification this season, they can also offer guaranteed minutes in Europe and the Premier League.
However, Huijsen has claimed that his friends are asking him to snub Newcastle’s interest to join Real Madrid this summer.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Huijsen told Chiringuito: “One of my close friends sent me a story about Real Madrid… he told me: go to Madrid!
“It’s a big club. Every player wants to play in the biggest possible.”
Newcastle United still have three Dean Huijsen alternatives
It seems a deal for the Bournemouth star is growing more and more difficult despite Huijsen being pictured with a Newcastle shirt.
However, it won’t panic Mitchell or Newcastle’s recruitment team if Huijsen does move elsewhere this summer as the Magpies have several other centre-back targets on their radar.
As previously mentioned, Guehi is a target that Newcastle could reignite interest in this summer if Palace are more open to selling him.
Huijsen’s teammate at Bournemouth, Illia Zabarnyi is also admired by Newcastle but if Huijsen leaves the Cherries may make a deal difficult.
Newcastle remain interested in Antonio Silva too, with the Benfica defender considered an exciting prospect in Portugal.
