Paul Mitchell is expected to have more freedom to spend at Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

That revelation comes with its threats, however. There is a big chance that Newcastle United could spend their transfer kitty on players who have no impact on the first-team squad and end up regressing rather than making any improvements.

On Thursday, news broke that Newcastle will sign young players instead of established names in a bid to find brighter talents across Europe and prevent a repeat of last summer, which saw Newcastle sell two bright prospects, including Elliot Anderson, who could make the Magpies regret their decision on Monday.

Star striker Alexander Isak has been embroiled in transfer rumours throughout the season with Arsenal big fans of the Swede. YouTuber Chunkz encouraged Isak to join Arsenal but the 25-year-old made a point to say how much he loves Newcastle.

Reports have stated that Newcastle will hold contract talks with Isak in the summer after it was revealed that Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell have no intention of letting their star players leave in the summer – even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

As Isak thinks about his future, his shirt has been spotted in the hands of a player Newcastle have a lot of admiration for.

Dean Huijsen spotted with Alexander Isak Newcastle shirt

AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has been sensational since moving from Juventus to the South Coast of England. At just 19, the defender has established himself as a solid option for any team in the Premier League.

Newcastle wanted Huijsen last summer but failed to land the highly sought-after star who had interest across Europe. This season, Bournemouth are flying in the Premier League and look likely to qualify for European football under Andoni Iraola.

Howe saw exactly what he missed out on when Bournemouth visited St James’ Park in January. Huijsen ensured Isak stayed quiet throughout the game after agreeing with teammate Illya Zabarnyi that they would not give him the freedom to perform to his usual abilities.

Huijsen added a photo dump to his Instagram page and in one of the photos he can be seen holding a Newcastle shirt with Isak’s name and number on the back. The shirt is likely to have been given to him by Isak after a game as part of a shirt swap.

Newcastle want to sign Huijsen in the summer, but it will cost them £50m rather than the £12.8m Bournemouth spent on him just six months prior.

Dean Huijsen gives Newcastle a long-term defensive option

With two defenders’ contracts set to expire at the end of the season, it’s important that Newcastle now look towards the future and sign a younger, brighter talent.

Huijsen’s age and talent makes him the perfect replacement to someone like Fabian Schar who is set to sign a new deal but may become second choice next season if the Magpies sign a new centre-back.

A big bonus for Howe would be that Huijsen is proficient with both feet. The Spanish under-21s international could play on either side of the defence and not have trouble adapting. Lloyd Kelly is likely to leave Newcastle in the summer, so the need for more depth at the back is genuine.

Mitchell tried to bring in a defender during the January transfer window. Abdukodir Khusanov looked set to join Newcastle before PSR forced the Magpies to back out of the deal. He would end up signing for Manchester City instead.

If Newcastle are going to spend big money, Huijsen would be the ideal player to spend it on.
