Newcastle United are reportedly on the hunt for a new striker.

The club are seemingly keen to strengthen in that particular area, with Newcastle’s current options proving reasonably unreliable.

Indeed, Callum Wilson has seemingly picked up another injury after only recently making his comeback, while Alexander Isak is also currently injured.

With that in mind, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has been linked.

The forward was touted as a target before his £55m move to the German side from RB Salzburg and is reportedly on the radar once more.

Benjamin Sesko: Steve McManaman so impressed with Newcastle transfer target

The Slovenia international was in Champions League action on Tuesday night.

Sesko was unfortunate to have seen a goal against Real Madrid ruled out due to offside, though he did ultimately miss a number of other good chances.

Pundit Steve McManaman was watching the 20-year-old in action and said of Sesko (via the Champions League’s official LIVE blog): “Sesko is an incredible striker but he just couldn’t convert.”

Benjamin Sesko to Newcastle: Transfer latest

Last month, it was claimed by Football Transfers that Newcastle considered Sesko as a potential long-term heir to Wilson, who may not be at the club long-term.

At 20 and having already amassed a pretty decent level of experience in major European leagues, the striker does certainly look as if he’d fit the profile of a usual PIF signing.

With Isak capable of playing wide too, there’s even a chance the two could operate together.

A big summer is expected at Newcastle after the FFP frustrations of the January window and perhaps Sesko could form part of it.

Leipzig, after all, have made a habit of selling their key players when the offers are right and the extent of the links with Sesko would suggest Newcastle really are keen.
