Newcastle United have identified a young European striker as a potential replacement for Callum Wilson who could be on his way out this summer.
Newcastle have already rejected a loan bid from Atletico Madrid for Wilson but it is expected that the attacker will be sold in the summer if not this month.
A new report from Football Transfers now claims that the Magpies are targeting RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as a long-term replacement for the former Bournemouth man.
‘Brilliant’ striker could lead Newcastle for the next decade
Newcastle have already got one of the best strikers in the Premier League in Alexander Isak who, when fully fit, has shown moments of incredible talent and has the goals to go with it.
However, right now they cannot depend on the Swedish international to stay fit for a whole season which he has struggled with so far on Tyneside, meaning a quality backup is needed.
In the Premier League you’re not going to find many better backup striker options than Wilson, the trouble is he’s only a good option to have when he’s fit and that’s something that is too rare for Newcastle’s liking.
This means they are likely to ship him off for a fee in the summer while they still can and look to bring in someone like the ‘brilliant‘ Sesko who has bags of potential, is absolutely rapid and could be a future star.

Sesko may be an affordable option for Newcastle
While there is not a lot in the budget to make any January signings, Newcastle are expecting to have a much bigger budget in the summer when they receive their Champions League money as well as from commercial deals with Adidas.
In today’s market you’re looking at upwards of £60m for quality strikers, and even more for those who are very young and are already showing signs of being a top player.
The difference with Sesko, however, is that it’s understood that he has a release clause of around £42m and as he’s currently not first choice in Leipzig, the 20-year-old may be available in six months time.
There’s bound to be other teams interested given how exciting a talent he is, but Eddie Howe is a big fan of the Slovenian striker and would love to bring him to Newcastle.
