Eddie Howe has offered an injury update on one of his key Newcastle United players who missed yesterday’s game vs Luton.
It’s just injury after injury at Newcastle it’s actually quite difficult to keep up with who’s in the team and who’s out much to the disappointment of the supporters.
Alexander Isak was forced off against Aston Villa and Howe, speaking to BBC Newcastle, claimed that the striker was never going to be available against Luton and could miss the next couple of games.
Howe says Isak ‘wasn’t close’ to playing for Newcastle yesterday
There was some slight hope that the Swedish international may be able to make the bench, but given the amount of injuries Howe is having to deal with this season it made little sense to rush him back and risk further problems.
There was a return for Callum Wilson who came off the bench in the second half, but it does feel like they’re sort of taking it in turns to be out with a knock.
Isak has been absolutely incredible for Newcastle this season despite the multiple injuries that he’s had to deal with and it’s a massive blow to lose someone of that quality when you’re in the hunt of a Champions League spot.
And it now looks like they’ll have to do without the 24-year-old for at least the next couple of games, though Newcastle fans are very cautious when it comes to Howe’s injury claims this season.
In the interview, Howe said: “No he wasn’t close today. We don’t think he’s got a serious injury but it might keep him out for a couple of games. Hopefully we get him back pretty quickly.”

Newcastle’s injury crisis will never end
Not only will it be frustrating to hear that Isak is likely to miss the trip to Nottingham Forest and the game against Bournemouth at St James’, the picture of Anthony Gordon in crutches has also left fans in disbelief.
It’s difficult to remember a season quite like this one when it comes to injuries, it feels like it’s a matter of who’s next in almost every game they’ve played this season.
Having Gordon and Isak potentially out will be devastating to the team as they have probably been the two best players this season, and certainly two of the best finishers currently at the club.
Howe will have to be very careful with Wilson now or he may end up having to field a Newcastle team without a recognised striker in the immediate future.
