A key Newcastle United player looks destined to leave the club in the summer with a number of Saudi Pro League clubs believed to be keeping an eye on him.
Newcastle came to close to selling Callum Wilson in January as the striker attracted interest from European sides as well as a handful of Premier League clubs who were all keen on signing him.
Despite wanting to keep him on at Newcastle, a new report from Mail Online claims that it is ‘likely’ that the 31-year-old won’t be on Tyneside for much longer with a move abroad a real possibility.
Wilson now set to leave Newcastle in the summer
Wilson has been very effective for Newcastle since signing from Bournemouth in 2022, maintaining an impressive record of a goal in almost every other game for the club.
While Eddie Howe probably doesn’t want to sell someone of his quality and leadership, the head coach has been backed into a corner with Wilson’s injury record, age and length of his contract.
The 31-year-old has less than 18 months left on his current deal which was largely why Newcastle had considered selling him in the first place, and now this summer looks to be the last chance to cash in.
While clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United showed interest in January, this report suggests that a move abroad is more likely and that several Saudi clubs have been watching him recently.

Newcastle looking for complete overhaul of the squad
Newcastle massively overachieved last season by qualifying for the Champions League with a squad that certainly wasn’t yet prepared to be battling amongst Europe’s elite.
The lack of depth has been exposed in the new campaign with several key injuries forcing Newcastle’s form to struggle in the first half of the season and the owners won’t want to risk that happening again next year.
While they can appreciate that Wilson is a talented striker, it is players like him who they will have to move on if they are to make any significant improvements in the squad in the next transfer window.
In football there is little time for sentimentality and Newcastle will soon have to learn to be more ruthless if they want to be taken seriously by some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
