How Everton feel about loaning Amadou Onana to Newcastle this month

Newcastle United are trying to sign Amadou Onana from Everton this month, but are having to be creative.

The 22-year-old is a target for the Magpies, as they look to replace Joelinton following the news that he is going to miss the rest of the season due to a groin injury.

It leaves Newcastle massively light in midfield, and Amadou Onana has been identified as someone they would like to bring in. That is no surprise, as the Belgium international has been linked with a move to Tyneside plenty of times over the last couple of years.

However, a deal during the current January transfer window is going to be difficult. That is because the Toon owners are being hamstrung by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Therefore, Newcastle are having to think outside of the box. They are looking to sign Onana on an initial loan from Everton, before making the deal permanent in the summer. It would be a similar deal to the one they agreed for Lewis Hall last year, and now a new report shares how the Toffees feel about this potential arrangement.

Everton unlikely to allow Newcastle to sign Amadou Onana on loan

According to Football Transfers, Everton are unlikely to agree to initially loan Onana to Newcastle. They state that Sean Dyche’s side are ‘hesitant’ about this type of deal, and would be more inclined to let him go permanently.

Onana’s price tag is £60million, which is almost double what they bought him for in 2022. He arrived from Lille for £33million and has been very impressive, which is why Everton are looking to make a huge profit.

That kind of money would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, which is going to make a permanent deal this month pretty much impossible. The only way the Magpies could do a permanent deal now is if they sell someone, but that is proving to be very difficult.

It no longer looks like Kieran Trippier is going to Bayern Munich, while Miguel Almiron has told Newcastle that he wants to stay amid speculation that he could be sold to a club in Saudi Arabia.

Everything appears to be going against Newcastle, and that is why it is extremely difficult to envision Onana wearing a black and white shirt this season.
