Fabrizio Romano delivers major transfer blow as Newcastle United miss out on £25m target

Newcastle United are continuing to search for an attacker, but Fabrizio Romano has named one player who will not be joining the Magpies.

Eddie Howe is eager to improve his forward line this summer, with Newcastle United aiming to sign a right winger.

That is where the club are expected to splash out, with Newcastle having a £100million transfer budget which remains untouched.

There is hope that Newcastle are close to a breakthrough in the transfer market, but it will likely be for a centre-back rather than a winger.

As it stands, there does not appear to be a standout target to join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack, with those on Newcastle’s radar either too ambitious or heading elsewhere.

Michael Olise has gone to Bayern Munich, while Jarrod Bowen to Newcastle is a non-starter.

Newcastle United set to miss out on Crysencio Summerville after Fabrizio Romano update

Now Newcastle are missing out on another target, with Leeds United set to sell Crysencio Summerville to one of the Magpies’ Premier League rivals.

Summerville has been linked with Newcastle, but it is West Ham who are closing in.

It was recently reported that West Ham had made their move for Summerville, and now a deal is almost completed.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to X to provide an update on the Dutch forward’s future.

He wrote: “Crysencio Summerville to West Ham, here we go! Deal in place between clubs for package in excess of £25m with add-ons. Summerville agreed on long term deal and he also spoke to Lopetegui ahead of move. Leeds United accepted the proposal and he’s now set to sign.”

Romano later added that a medical is booked to take place on Thursday August 1st, as Summerville prepares to return to the Premier League.

Another attacking target passes Newcastle United by

As Summerville prepares to sign on the dotted line with West Ham, Newcastle can cross another name off their list of targets.

While the 22-year-old was perhaps not the biggest name linked with a move to Tyneside, he was certainly on Newcastle’s radar. In that sense, it is a blow to see another target fail to arrive at St James’ Park.

Instead, Summerville is off to West Ham, who are forming a very exciting attack. They already have Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, and are now adding Summerville to the fold.

As for Newcastle, the search for a winger continues, but the list of targets is dwindling.

Nico Gonzalez is the newest name linked with Newcastle, and he could prove to be a smart addition. Alternatively, perhaps Paul Mitchell’s top target is yet to come out in the media.

But with almost two weeks to go until the new Premier League season kicks off, Newcastle United are very much in a race against time.
