Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has shared a huge update which boosts Newcastle United’s chances of keeping Alexander Isak next season.

The Swede has been unstoppable at times this season, scoring 23 goals in the Premier League to help the Magpies return to the Champions League.

Alexander Isak is truly one of a kind. It would be an incredibly tough task to replace him at Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe is very keen to keep Isak at the club this summer and deter interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. Newcastle’s Champions League qualification was a big boost in their hopes of keeping him, but no further news surrounding his future has been shared.

Newcastle want to give Isak a new contract to ensure there are no bids for their star striker and give him everything he needs to be happy on Tyneside.

As Newcastle prepare for contract talks with Isak, Fabrizio Romano has shared some news which can only mean good things for Howe’s fight to keep Isak at the club.

Arsenal set to begin negotiations for Benjamin Sesko

During the January transfer window, Arsenal were heavily linked with Isak, but were quoted an eye-watering £150m. The British record transfer fee would have needed to be broken to make the move happen.

Arsenal wanted Newcastle to miss out on the Champions League to give them a better chance of landing Isak, but the Magpies had done enough to secure qualification on the final day of the season.

Mikel Arteta is desperate for an out-and-out striker this summer, and it looks like he will finally get his wish after Romano confirmed that the Gunners have started initial talks over a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s hottest prospects and has been linked with a move to England for over three years. It now looks like he will finally get his move, Arsenal get the striker they have been longing for, and Newcastle have a better chance of keeping Isak for another season.

Newcastle United were linked with Benjamin Sesko before Arsenal discussions

Sesko joining Arsenal makes Arteta’s side a much more dangerous team in the Premier League next season, one that will be eager to challenge for the title.

Newcastle have their own ambitions as well, and are looking to build on their best season in living memory. However, it could have been a different story had Newcastle got their way.

Sesko was linked to Newcastle in 2022 while he was still playing for RB Salzburg, but a move never materialised, and he moved to Leipzig a year later.

Despite having Isak, Newcastle were linked with Sesko during the January transfer window after impressing in his first 18 months in Germany.

They look set to miss out on him, but Newcastle would have struggled to bring him to Tyneside anyway. Sesko wants to be first choice at any club he joins, which is not guaranteed at Newcastle while Isak is playing for them.
