Newcastle transfer news: Toon interested in RB Salzburg's Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko is a new name on Newcastle United’s wanted list.

The Magpies are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements, but are struggling to get any joy at the moment.

Hugo Ekitike has gone elsewhere, Armando Broja looks set for West Ham, while the likes of Moussa Diaby and Alexander Isak are too expensive.

Newcastle have gone back to the drawing board, and Sesko is the latest forward to emerge on the club’s radar.

Newcastle eye RB Salzburg teen

Toon fans went into a frenzy yesterday when it emerged that an agent was on Tyneside on Monday night.

Elvir Basanovic posted a story on his Instagram account of him on the Newcastle quayside, which led to speculation from fans about why he was there.

After assessing his list of clients, Sesko was deemed the most likely option. Basanovic has since deleted the Instagram post, but the Daily Mail have provided some information.

They report that Newcastle admire the 19-year-old, and that he is on the club’s list of striker targets. However, no explanation is given as to why his agent was in the North East.

Who is Sesko amid Newcastle interest?

Since the Sesko speculation began, Newcastle supporters have been familiarising themselves with the teenager.

The striker was born in Slovenia in 2003, and has already played 13 times for his country. He’s scored twice, and became Slovenia’s youngest ever scorer last year when he found the net at the age of 18 years, four months and eight days.

He currently plays in Austria for RB Salzburg, where he scored 11 goals in all competitions last season. His best year was the season prior when he netted 21 goals on loan in the Austrian second tier.

While he doesn’t have a lot of experience, he does have a lot of potential. He’s even been likened to Erling Haaland, which is very high praise.

His agent has called him a ‘complete striker‘, and believes he is ‘very fast‘. Those qualities are what will appeal to Newcastle, as they search for competition for Callum Wilson.

Sesko would certainly add that, and is a player who could blossom into a star at St James’ Park in the coming years. He’s one for the future, but a player Newcastle should try to land now.

Only time will tell if Eddie Howe and co decide to make a move for Sesko.
