Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak looks set to stay at the club this summer.
There has never been any suggestion that Newcastle United would look to sell Isak of course but the idea that the club could miss out on Champions League qualification did threaten to complicate matters.
French football journalist Julien Laurens claimed Isak wanted a guarantee of Champions League football next season. Now, it looks as if Newcastle will be able to offer that.

The striker still has three years to run on his contract at St James’ Park and has never given any outward indication he’s looking to leave. However, Arsenal are interested in signing Isak and BBC Sport recently claimed he would be open to the move.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein, however, has provided a welcome update.

David Ornstein shuts down fresh Alexander Isak to Arsenal claim
The noted transfer insider was speaking to NBC Sports about Arsenal’s recruitment plans this summer.
He revealed that Arsenal are interested in Isak but a move for him is just not deemed realistic this summer due to Newcastle’s stance that the player won’t be leaving.
Interestingly, Ornstein also adds that even if Newcastle miss out on the Champions League (which does not look likely), the 25-year-old would still be staying on Tyneside.
“We’ve been talking for so long about Alexander Isak,” he said.
“Of course Arsenal and Mikel Arteta really like him. But I don’t think that’s realistic for them or probably for anybody else.
“Let’s see if Newcastle finish in the Champions League or not. Even if they don’t and he’s available for sale, it will be a huge price and I don’t think that is realistic.”
Alexander Isak’s contract at Newcastle United
Newcastle are looking to agree a new contract with Isak, although his current deal does not expire until the summer of 2028.
That puts the club in a great position. If an agreement is still not found by next summer, then perhaps there would be reason to fear. Letting him go into his final year would be a huge risk, with the club potentially missing out on millions in a transfer fee.

Until it gets to that point, however, there is every reason to feel confident about a long-term stay at the club.
Newcastle have proven they can win silverware and are effectively one win away from providing a guarantee of Champions League football for next season. They are in a commanding position to be able to offer a player as good as Isak all that he needs.
