Eddie Howe now suggests ‘unbelievable’ Newcastle star will be staying this summer

Plenty of Newcastle United players have been linked with a move away this summer.

Most of those would have been players Newcastle do not want to lose. In fact, two who have departed in Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh are talents Eddie Howe has confirmed he did not want to leave.

Anthony Gordon, of course, was even touted for a move to Liverpool as the club looked to raise money to avoid a potential ten-point deduction for breaking PSR rules in the Premier League, which do not allow clubs to lose more than £105m over a three-year accountancy period.

The problems, of course, lie in not being able to move on players who are somewhat past their sell-by date, meaning other players must be sold instead.

While sporting director Paul Mitchell is believed to want to move on senior stars in order to reduce the average age of the squad, actually doing that has not been easy for the club.

One of those is said to be Miguel Almiron.

The winger is said to be attracting interest from Saudi Arabia but has been included in the Newcastle squad for the pre-season tour in Japan.

Speaking about the forward after the 2-0 win at Hull on Saturday, Howe provided an update.

Eddie Howe suggests Miguel Almiron will now stay at Newcastle this summer

Asked about Almiron’s future, Howe said (via The Chronicle): “He has been unbelievable for Newcastle. Long before I came but since I have been here he has been an absolutely pivotal and key player.

“We love him, we love his personality and we love working with him. And he’s come back with a big smile on his face. So I am looking forward to working with him again.”

Miguel Almiron deserves respect at Newcastle

Yes, selling Almiron would be more palatable than losing a player on the rise before he’s even played for the club in Minteh.

Still, that’s not to say the Paraguay international should be treated as a pariah if he does not want to leave.

Indeed, former teammate Allan Saint-Maximin has backed him and talked of his love for playing for Newcastle. He has a contract, after all, and his work ethic can rarely be questioned.

In an ideal world, Almiron probably should leave. If he doesn’t, then let’s back him for the season ahead.
