Newcastle United and Marc Guehi could be involved in yet another transfer saga this month.

The Crystal Palace star was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park over the summer with Newcastle submitting several bids for Marc Guehi.

On deadline day, Newcastle and sporting director Paul Mitchell walked away from the Guehi deal after Palace refused to budge from their £70m asking price.

Newcastle desperately needed to strengthen their defensive department but ended the summer having only signed Lloyd Kelly at centre-back.

With Sven Botman returning to the first team this month, the need for a centre-back has dwindled. But reports claim Newcastle are still interested in Guehi this month.

Marc Guehi wants to stay at Crystal Palace

Newcastle are not the only interested party with Chelsea also monitoring Guehi ahead of a potential move. The Blues also pipped Newcastle to summer target Tosin Adarabioyo and now could pounce for Guehi.

However, Palace boss Oliver Glasner has revealed that Marc Guehi wants to stay put at Selhurst Park despite the interest from Premier League sides.

After Palace’s 1-0 win over Stockport on Sunday afternoon, Glasner said: “We still have (a lot of time) to go in the transfer window. Like always, everything can happen.

“But when you ask me, I want us to stay together with this squad. I know Trevoh wants to stay, I know Marc wants to stay.”

It is not the first time Glasner has spoken about Guehi’s future. Just last week, Glasner was not concerned about Guehi leaving with Palace viewing him as a key player. He does, however, have just 18 months remaining on his contract and his asking price continues to drop.

What price Crystal Palace would sell Marc Guehi for

Palace held firm with their £65-70m valuation of Guehi in the summer. Due to PSR constraints, that was simply too much for Newcastle.

Sadly, that is the case again this month but Newcastle will have a bigger budget in the summer and Guehi’s latest asking price is very tempting.

Reports claim Palace could sell Guehi for £40m with chairman Steve Parish aware that his value will continue to drop as his contract ticks down.

Newcastle’s priority is to sign a right winger, but a centre-back is still on the shopping list and a summer deal for Guehi shouldn’t be ruled out.
