Newcastle United have spent a long time chasing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

The Magpies have retained a long-term interest in Mbeumo who is currently enjoying his best season in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and bagged three assists so far this season as Brentford look for a first top-10 finish in the Premier League.

Newcastle are in the market for a right-winger. The club believes Mbeumo would be a good fit for Newcastle as a long-term option on the wing.

Arsenal also want Mbeumo with the initial figure billed at around £50million. It was revealed that Newcastle are the only club to approach Bretford for Mbeumo over a January move, but the winger has stayed put.

However, recent reports now suggest that Newcastle must pay significantly more if they want to land Mbeumo.

Brentford want £60m for Newcastle-linked Mbeumo

Brentford are reluctant to sell Mbeumo in January as Thomas Frank doesn’t want to lose one of his best assets midway through the season.

Frank recently sent a “good luck” message to the likes of Newcastle who are keen to sign Mbeumo in January – a clear hands-off warning.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Brentford have now told clubs that they must pay £60m for them to consider selling Mbeumo in January. There is no chance that the figure will drop before the end of the window.

The report suggests that Newcastle cannot afford that price tag and Liverpool; who have also been linked with Mbeumo, are prioritising contract talks with Mohamed Salah.

A boost for Newcastle is that it looks like Arsenal are looking to spend their money elsewhere. Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi looks set to move to North London for a lucrative transfer fee.

Mbeumo has performed better than Newcastle’s wingers

Newcastle need to make signings in January to boost their hopes of playing European football next season. The squad will be stretched when Miguel Almiron leaves Newcastle for Atlanta United. Jacob Murphy will be left as Howe’s only natural right-wing option.

Signing Mbeumo seems like a no-brainer for Mitchell given how well he has performed in the Premier League this season. He has just one less goal than Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Murphy combined.

Toon fans got a glimpse of what Mbeumo can do in December when he scored and bagged an assist against Newcastle at the G-tech Community Stadium.

At just 25 years old, Mbeumo looks to be the right option to help take Newcastle to the next level where fans want them to be.
