Newcastle United have stepped up the chase to sign a sensational winger.

Paul Mitchell is in the transfer market to give Eddie Howe better options in Newcastle’s first-team squad. The Magpies are on a push for European football next season – the thought is that the club need to qualify for the Champions League to keep Alexander Isak at the club.

Newcastle need to sell before making any purchases, there are several players tipped to leave to fund incomings.

Miguel Almiron looks set to leave Newcastle in January despite clubs being reluctant to pay the £12million price tag Newcastle have slapped on him.

Martin Dubravka’s transfer saga continues as Newcastle remain poised to keep him at the club. Dubravka has the chance to leave Newcastle for Al-Shabab in January but Howe is reluctant to see him leave.

Elsewhere, Sean Longstaff is an Everton target but it’s believed that the midfielder hasn’t found a suitable club yet. There’s no rush for the 27-year-old to depart the club, Newcastle triggered a clause in Longstaff’s contract which will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

While talks of outgoings persist, it was the words regarding a potential arrival that will please fans.

Newcastle the only club to approach Bryan Mbeumo

The Magpies are in the market for a right winger in January, despite Jacob Murphy’s great run of form in recent weeks. There’s a lack of depth and quality in that position.

Mbeumo has been on Newcastle’s radar over a move in January but Brentford are reluctant to sell the 25-year-old mid-season. Brentford boss Thomas Frank said “good luck” to any teams interested in signing Mbeumo in January, a clear hands-off warning.

Now, according to Ben Jacobs talking to The United Stand, Newcastle are the only club to make a ‘concrete’ approach for Mbeumo.

He said: “Brentford don’t want to sell, that’s the first thing. Newcastle are the only club that have made any concrete approach – No bid for January but they’re looking at Mbeumo over the summer.

“What we can say is when Dan Ashworth was still at Newcastle he was looking at Mbeumo.

“It’s logical to think when Ashworth was still at (Man United) he had put Mbeumo into the mix but I’m not aware that has been taken forward by Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada or any of the recruitment team.

“Nothing on my radar with Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo other than to point out that Newcastle likes him and they liked him when Dan Ashworth was still there.”

Jacob’s quotes confirm Mbeumo has been a long-term target for Newcastle who look to have spent at least a year chasing the Cameroon international with 16 goal involvements in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle need Mbeumo in January

Newcastle must do everything they can to sign Mbeumo if they want to continue their efforts to qualify for Europe. Although the Magpies are in great form at the moment, a couple of injuries could change things.

The win against Bromley on Sunday was a chance to rest several players, but there were concerns. Isak and Murphy were rested for the game due to minor injuries they sustained in the weeks prior.

If Murphy goes, it leaves just Almiron to fill in before Newcastle have to look to move the likes of Anthony Gordon out of position.

Mbeumo should be seen as a priority signing in January, he’s the player who would give Newcastle all the impetus they need to keep up their great form.
