Newcastle United could be busy dealing with arrivals and exits in the summer transfer window.

The upcoming transfer window looks like it will be a positive one for Toon fans who have been eagerly anticipating more signings for the first team.

Newcastle United’s cautious approach to recent transfer windows has put them in a much better position to spend at the end of the season – Paul Mitchell already has a plan.

After years of signing big names at high transfer fees with hefty wage packages, Newcastle will sign young players per Mitchell’s request. The hope is that they can gel with the first-team players while Eddie Howe develops them into top-class players who will eventually replace the Magpies’ existing stars.

Newcastle are hoping to keep ahold of star striker Alexander Isak who has his fair share of admirers, including Arsenal.

Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Isak who could cost clubs as much as £150m in the summer following a successful season which has seen him score 17 goals in the Premier League.

With his future in doubt, a new transfer report has stated that Arsenal may now look to sign a Newcastle target rather than the Swede who would cost £100m less than him.

Arsenal prioritise Benjamin Sesko over Alexander Isak

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has been a force to be reckoned with this season. The Slovenian international has scored 15 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions including four goals in the Champions League.

Newcastle are long-term admirers of Sesko, registering an interest in the 21-year-old during the 2022 summer transfer window. The Magpies would have a fantastic replacement for Isak in Sesko, but it’s Arsenal who look the more likely suitors.

According to TeamTalk, Arsenal will still be alert to Isak if he becomes available, but they believe that Sesko is much more ‘gettable’ in the summer in comparison.

Sesko is one of three strikers Newcastle have discussed internally – Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and LOSC Lille star Jonathan David are the other two. The latter of which will become a free agent in the summer.

Newcastle must improve other positions

With the Magpies expected to spend more freely in the summer, Mitchell must improve the areas that are in desperate need of more bodies. That means that the striker position may not take priority ahead of other areas like the right wing or defence.

Newcastle lost players in both those positions then Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron left the club in January – leaving Howe with the difficult task of qualifying for the Champions League with a weakened squad.

There has been no shortage of wingers linked with a move to Tyneside in recent weeks. The likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Johan Bakayoko were tipped to join Newcastle in January but nothing materialised.

Newcastle are set to sign Antonio Cordero from Malaga after the 18-year-old snubbed Real Madrid and Barcelona. The winger gives Howe another option to use next season, but it is unknown whether he will be immediately thrown into the deep end or will be loaned out for his first season the club.

The Magpies will also welcome back two young defenders, Alex Murphy and Charlie McArthur from loan spells at the end of the season. Both players are now playing in the Football League to prove to Howe that they are good enough to play Premier League football in the future.
