24-year-old striker is desperate to join the Premier League, after claims Newcastle want to sign him

Newcastle United are going to be in the market for a striker this summer, and a player they have targeted is keen on playing in the Premier League.

It has recently been reported that the Magpies are going to address their striker situation this summer. While Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are both brilliant goalscorers, neither can stay fit.

Wilson’s injury record is particularly worrying, and the 31-year-old is the man who looks like he will be replaced at St James’ Park during the summer transfer window.

And Newcastle could turn to a former teammate of Sven Botman to take his place.

Newcastle target Jonathan David eyes Premier League move

Back in December, Newcastle were linked with Lille forward Jonathan David, who previously played alongside Botman for the Ligue 1 side.

The Canada international has been a rumoured target for Newcastle for years, and it looks like that speculation could come to a head this summer.

That is because Football Transfers report that David is ‘desperate’ to play for a club in the Premier League.

Unless there is a disaster between now and the end of the season, Newcastle will be just that, and Football Transfers add that Eddie Howe’s side are interested.

Brentford seen him as an Ivan Toney replacement

However, the 24-year-old has other suitors in the Premier League, one of which is reportedly Brentford.

Football Transfers believe that Jonathan David has been identified as a possible replacement for Ivan Toney, who looks likely to leave the Bees this summer. Interestingly, he has also been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Between the two, David would be the better buy for Newcastle. He is younger than Toney, while he will probably be cheaper as well. But the Magpies will face stiff competition for a forward who is eager to test himself in the top flight of English football.

Newcastle are going to be in the market for a striker, and it will be intriguing to see if they firm up their interest in Jonathan David.
