Newcastle United are now showing a real interest in signing one of the most in-form striker’s in world football as Alan Shearer encourages them to make a move.
Newcastle are keen on bolstering their attack this summer as Callum Wilson continues to deal with injuries, and Ivan Toney is one name that they are showing a real interest in.
According to a new report from TEAMtalk, both Arsenal and Newcastle are now on high alert after it was revealed that contract discussions between Toney and Brentford are currently at a standstill.
Toney looks destined to leave amid Newcastle interest
It’s been a difficult season for Toney who has had to sit on the sidelines for eight months because of his gambling ban, but he made his return for the Bees with a goal against Nottingham Forest.
Since coming back into the team, the 27-year-old has netted three times in four appearances in the Premier League and it looks like he was never even away from the team.
While Brentford would love to keep their star man they appreciate it’s going to be almost impossible as manager Thomas Frank recently admitted that a summer move for the ‘world class‘ striker looks very likely.
The Bees are still hoping that the striker will sign a new deal, though talks aren’t believed to be progressing well and that has alerted both Newcastle and Arsenal to the situation.

Shearer urges Newcastle to sign talented striker
Shearer is naturally a huge fan of the talented goalscorer who is in such high demand and he is very keen on Newcastle to be the club to secure his signature this summer.
On The Rest Is Football Podcast, Shearer acknowledged that Newcastle are fairly weak when it comes to their striking options and believes Toney would be a ‘really good’ fit for the Magpies for next season.
On the podcast, he said: “I think he’s a really good player and I think he’s a really good option.
“Newcastle need to improve in that department, they need another option in there, so I don’t think there will be any shortage of suitors for Toney.”
It’s going to be a tough battle for the Englishman who will effectively have his pick of teams as so many are finding it difficult in the modern era to attain a top class striker.
Newcastle are lucky to have someone as good as Alexander Isak in their side but adding Toney to the mix would be a huge boost to their hopes for next season.
